Artist Statement
The source of my artistic influences stems from the diverse and substantial cultural history of European visual arts, coupled with the distinctive, wide-ranging, historical roots of Cypriot creative traditions, which inspire me to form inimitable and solicitous works.
Biography
Hun Adamoğlu is a London-based artist working primarily in oil paint and graphite. Born in Cyprus in 1975, he moved to the United Kingdom in childhood. After completing his formal art education, he spent several years travelling and studying independently, deepening his understanding of both place and practice. These formative experiences continue to shape the sensibility and depth of his work. In 2012 he established Adamoğlu Atelier in London, where he is now based.
His practice is rooted in the enduring tradition of representation. At its core lies a sustained commitment to careful observation – to structure, light, surface and the subtle poetry of the visible world. Through this attentive approach, his work reflects upon presence, memory and the quiet resilience of life.
Marked by assured draughtsmanship and a refined command of tone, his paintings are carefully composed, balancing softness with clarity and complexity with restraint. Layers of colour and structure are orchestrated to create depth and quiet intensity, inviting prolonged contemplation. While firmly contemporary, his work acknowledges the discipline and compositional intelligence of the High Renaissance, where harmony, balance and material sensitivity were paramount.
Hun Adamoğlu’s work has been exhibited widely in the United Kingdom and internationally, won multiple awards, and is held in private collections. He is a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and currently serves as Membership Secretary and Council Member.
